Strings - General Rules

1. Grade levels for all violin, viola, and double bass classes refer to RCM grade levels.
2. Participants entering two or more solo classes may enter one of them at one grade level higher (e.g., two classes at Level 5 and one at Level 6).
3. It is expected that all competitive entries will be played from memory, except in Sonata classes.
4. Repertoire must be performed from memory in all Open classes with the exception of the Sonata.
5. Participants must perform repertoire appropriate to the grade level entered.
6. The Adjudicator may reallocate a participant to a class of a different grade level if the music is deemed inappropriate for the class the participant is entered. The decision of the Adjudicator is final.
7. Participants in Strings sight-reading classes must enter a class at the same grade level as their repertoire entries.
8. In all classes, to avoid disqualification, the participant must provide the adjudicator with an original score of the work to be performed.
9. PLEASE NOTE: Some classes have been removed; therefore, class numbers are not always in order.

Participants in sight reading classes must enter a class appropriate to their level of skill (i.e. it must be at the same level as their other entries)
