Jazz & Pop Vocal - Syllabus 2027

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2027 11:59 PM - last day to register without a late fee.

REMEMBER: To be considered for recommendation to the 2027 Provincial Music Festival, students entering classes shall perform repertoire that aligns with grade level guidelines in the current FCMF syllabus.

Traditional Jazz Vocal Classes

  1. Suggested composers: Duke Ellington, Rodgers and Hart, Gershwin, Hoagy Carmichael, or any composers within the span of the “Great American Songbook”. This category may include songs from the early Bossa Nova era. Examples of artists singing this music are: Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Tony Bennett, Chet Baker, Diana Krall, Michael Bublé, and Karrin Allyson.
  2. With or without scat solo.
  3. Accompaniment limited to piano, with the additional option of electric or acoustic guitar/bass. Requests for other accompaniment should be directed to the Festival office for consideration.
  4. Please ensure repertoire is age- and language-appropriate for both the performer and the audience. Permission from the copyright holder is required to adapt or parody an existing musical work (e.g., altering song texts). Ensure you have written permission from the publisher before altering a published work. See SOCAN for more information.
  5. A microphone will be available for use in these classes.
  6. It is strongly advised that all repertoire in Traditional Jazz Vocal classes be memorized.

    1. Repertoire: songs from the 1950's to the present. Any questions concerning repertoire can be directed to nskiwanismusicfest@gmail.com
    2. Accompaniment limited to piano, with the additonal option of electric or acoustic guitar/bass. Requests for other accompaniment should be directed to the Festival office for consideration.
    3. Please ensure that repertoire is age- and language- appropriate for both the performer and audience members.
